Community News: It's a world of talent at global week

STUDENTS and staff at Stevenson College have celebrated a second successful year of "global week" activities.

The college hosted an evening reception at its Music Box venue as part of the week-long celebration of cultural diversity, which was attended by educational leaders, international students and consulate staff, including the German and Polish Consul-Generals. Students entertained with a variety of traditional Scottish music.

Studio time forgot is up for auction

AN Edinburgh painter's studio untouched for 88 years is set to fetch up to 30,000 at auction.

Landscape artist John Campbell Mitchell worked from the studio at his city home until his death, aged 60, in 1922. Two generations of his family have since lived in the house, but never disturbed the studio. Now the entire works of the "fine but neglected" artist are to be auctioned at Bonhams in Edinburgh on October 14.

Lead Generator joins Technopole community

The Edinburgh Technopole office and lab development has secured a new tenant.

Lead Generator, which attracts sales between businesses, has opened an office within the Bush House office at the south Edinburgh site. Donna Cameron at Grosvenor, joint venture partner at the site, said: "Bush House is the right fit for Lead Generator UK, meeting the company's space, service and location needs, and we welcome them to the Technopole community."

Speaking of free courses

FREE lipreading courses are being offered by Edinburgh City Council to help people with hearing impairments.

A clever way to spend 15?

CITY brainboxes can discover if they are eligible for a place in the High IQ society by taking a Mensa test later this month.

The supervised test takes place on Saturday, October 23, at the Quakers Meeting House for the sum of 15.

EIGHT big-hearted regulars from the Lord Nelson Pub on Trafalgar Street have trekked 62 miles along St Cuthbert's Way in a charity fundraiser. More than 2,500 was raised, with all proceeds going to Kinsfolk Carers Charity - an Edinburgh group providing support for family carers.
