Community News: Environment firm moves to business park

MANCHESTER environmental consultancy APEM is to open its first Scottish office at a business park in the Capital.

It has struck a four-year deal for a 1186 square feet space at Edinburgh Technopole, a joint venture between developer Grosvenor and Edinburgh University in the south of the city.

James Ellaway, associate director at APEM, said: "We are excited at the opening of our first office in Scotland, and look forward to working more closely with our Scottish clients."

City farm to host farmers' market event

EDINBURGH'S community farm has been given permission to host a farmers' market.

Gorgie City Farm, which has been teaching youngsters about rural life in the urban setting of Gorgie Road for almost 30 years, has got the go-ahead to run the event one weekend a month.

General manager David Drury said he hoped to attract farmers who currently trade in Castle Street, as well as selling the farm's own products.

Student honoured for hospital play research

A FORMER Stevenson College student has been awarded a prize for his investigation into the role of hospital play in meeting the needs of young people with profound learning disabilities.

Dan Notley was given the Eve Latimer Memorial Prize for the work he carried out while he was a hospital play specialist student at the college.

Mr Notley's work was said to show a deep and sensitive understanding of the needs of adolescents who have complex health needs.

Awards hope for music centre

A CITY music venue has been nominated for a top prize at this year's Scottish Trad Music Awards.

The Acoustic Music Centre at the St Bride's Centre in Fountainbridge is in the running for the Best Venue award. Voting for the awards lasts until November 20.

Open Uni holds open evening

STUDENTS thinking of taking an Open University course are invited to drop into an open evening tonight.

The information event is at its office in Drumsheugh Gardens from 4-7pm, with advisors on hand to offer advice and information on courses and options for financial support.

Ladies' night to aid children

A LADIES' night is to take place to raise money for a campaign for vulnerable children.

The event at Liberton Golf Club on November 13 will involve women being given a makeover before having a professional photo taken.

All proceeds go to Radio Forth's Cash for Kids appeal.
