Community News: City centre pub throws 3-day party

A CITY centre pub is to celebrate its third birthday by holding a three-day party.

Mr Modos said it would mark the anniversary by committing to more live music.

Management there have also teamed up with a local shop to provide buffets and cake for those attending the events, which were due to begin today.

Pub boss Pedro Tomas said: "We felt we couldn't let this go by without some kind of celebration.

"There will be DJs, free goody bags and plenty of live music."

I'm dreaming of a green Christmas

Tips for a green Christmas are on offer at a new eco-zone in the St James Centre.

The zone, run by Scottish Hydro and Scottish Business in the Community, will include pedal-powered Christmas tree lights and environmentally friendly stocking fillers for sale. There will also be an advent calendar with advice for a greener Christmas. Workshops include a free wrapping session on December 18 and free massages on December 23.

Arts centre's winter festival

A CROSS-cultural winter festival is being held at North Edinburgh Arts centre today.

Activity workshops this afternoon include making lanterns, jewellery and Christmas decorations, and there will be food, music and dancing from 5pm to 8pm at the centre in Pennywell Court.

Paintings in the window

The work of artist Cassandra Harrison will go on show in the ESPC showroom today. The prints of Edinburgh tenements will be on display in the George Street window over the Christmas period. Versions coloured to order can be bought from www.cassandraharrison.co.uk.

Website sets out guidelines on human rights

A WEBSITE is to be created aimed at abolishing myths surrounding the phrase "human rights".

The page, timed to coincide with international Human Rights Day, is entitled Care About Rights.

The Scottish Human Rights Council said it wanted to provide "practical, down-to-earth guidelines" on the subject for people in Edinburgh.

The advice has already been handed out to carers across the Lothians to help them understood the issue.

Advice on the menu at cafe

A CAFE offering information to young people about the next steps to take in life is set to arrive in the Capital for one day only.

Young Scot Extra will visit Ocean Terminal on Saturday, from 10am, to offer young people free, impartial information and support on a variety of topics.
