Community News: City bands set to perform for Pakistan

Two of Edinburgh's most exciting new bands will be taking to the stage at the city's Trinity Academy this Friday to raise funds for the Pakistan Disaster Relief.

Seeing the scenes of devastation made The Industry want to do something to help and Darren Adam at Radio Forth set them up with a special guest appearance from Six Storeys High.

Tickets are still available to Trinity Academy pupils for the Hallowe'en Rock Night, which starts at 7pm sharp on Friday night.

Disney store launches its giving tree

The Disney store in Princes Street is set to launch its Christmas Magical Giving Tree appeal next week.

Presents will be donated to children in collaboration with local charity Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP).

From Monday, shoppers can "sponsor" a soft toy for 5 in store.

Each sponsored toy, worth around 15, will be donated to a child from CCLASP.

Folk night raises 1200 for Malawian children

Parishioners raised over 1200 for children in Malawi with a folk music night.

Members of St Joseph's Church, Broomhouse Street North, held the fundraiser for Mary's Meals, a charity which aims to prevent hunger in the third world.

St Joseph's sponsors Limbe Primary, a school in Malawi with more than 1000 pupils.

Committee member David McGuire said: "It costs 6.15 to feed and educate a child in Malawi for one school year, so we charged parishioners 6.15 entry to the folk night."

Enjoy a coffee at autumn fair

THE Order of St John in Edinburgh holds its autumn fair and coffee morning in Saughtonhall United Reformed Church, 85-87 Saughtonhall Drive, on Saturday from 10am until noon.

Stalls include books, CDs, a tombola and farmers' market. Entry costs 1.50.

Fireworks in Wester Hailes

Wester Hailes' Clovenstone community centre will hold a firework display on Thursday, November 4 at 7pm, preceded by a performance from local dance group LS Dance at 6pm and the annual general meeting at 6.30pm. Hot food and snacks will be available afterwards.

Drama group scoops awards

CITY drama group Edinburgh Theatre Arts has notched up new successes at the annual Fleetwood Drama Festival.

Its production of The Cherry Orchard scooped six out of eight awards including Winning Play, Best Production, Adjudicator's Award, Best Presentation, Best Actor and Best Actress.
