Community News: Businesses set to make a connection

BUSINESS networking group JCI is to hold a showcase event for potential members on September 20.

The Junior Chamber International is a group for businessmen and women in their 20s and 30s.

During the evening, members will discuss what the group has to offer, including a range of social activities.

It will be held at the Apex Hotel in Waterloo Place from 6pm until 8pm. Just turn up, or contact [email protected].

Zoo's otter work up for discussion

The work of the International Otter Survival Fund will be under discussion at Edinburgh Zoo on September 23.

The zoo will host a talk about the organisation's work with the Eurasian otter, and will show the first ever footage of the rare hairy-nosed otter in the wild.

The talk will be held in the Zoo's education centre at 7.30pm, and advance booking is essential.

Mining Museum digs out fun for youngsters

Youngsters can explore geology at a day of workshops at the Scottish Mining Museum in Newtongrange.

At 11.30am there will be the chance to create a miniature model volcano, fill it with specially-created solution and watch it erupt.

At 2pm children can learn how to make felt and find out how it is similar to sedimentary rock.

Suitable for age five and upwards, tickets are free but there are only 10 places on each workshop, so reserve on 0131-663 7519.

Pakistan appeal raises 100

A GROUP of city youngsters have managed to raise 100 for the Pakistan floods appeal.

The group, who live in Hermit's Croft off St Leonard's Street, spent much of last week selling goods from their pavement stall to local residents.

Fete rakes in hospital cash

NEARLY 7000 has been generated for a Lothians hospital thanks to a fundraising fete.

Radio Forth presenter Grant Stott hosted the event for Liberton Hospital. Various stalls and pony rides were available.

Those attending were also given the chance to learn about the history of the facility.

Ceilidh does a turn for NSPCC
