Community council in appeal for members

A CITY community council has issued an appeal for new members after its entire ruling group stood down.

Southside Community Council wants local people to work on its committee to help with a range of projects.

The organisation was temporarily suspended after the chair, vice-chair and secretary all resigned, and is now advertising to fill ten positions.

Edinburgh Central MSP Marco Biagi said: “It is very important to have an effective and united community council as they have a statutory role in planning, licensing and other crucial areas of local government.

“Community councils can be a great driver for positive action in their area. There are fantastic examples of community councils championing local causes.

“Community councils play an important part in local democracy. Everyone in the area stands to benefit from an effective and active link with the city council, ensuring their voices are heard.”
