Commission will rule on independence

PARTIES from across the political spectrum have been told they must accept the findings of an Electorial Commission review of the independence referendum question.

Scottish Secretary Michael Moore was speaking during a House of Commons debate on the section 30 order which will hand Holyrood powers to run the 2014 vote.

Both the Commons and Lords are this week debating the order.

Mr Moore said: “The Scottish Government has committed to put before the Scottish Parliament its response to the Electoral Commission’s recommendations. This means that the Scottish Government will be held to account by the public and parliament alike for how it responds to that advice.”

SNP MP Angus Robertson said: “It [the referendum] will meet the highest standards of fairness, transparency and
propriety.”
