Comedian in court over pepper spray

A COMEDIAN who drunkenly thought it would "be a laugh" to blast his pal in the eye with pepper spray ended up in court yesterday.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard Stephen Rose, 26, had been on a drinking binge after performing in a comedy club in the city when it was suggested to him it might be funny to spray the canister.

Fiscal depute Mairi Vernon said Rose was at a party when he approached his colleague Christopher Stephen and discharged the can into his eyes.

She added Mr Stephen was left in a state of discomfort and his eyes were watering.

First offender Rose, of Bon Accord Street, Aberdeen, admitted culpably and recklessly discharging a canister of pepper spray into the face of Mr Stephen to his injury at Bristo Place on 30 August last year.

Sheriff Frank Crowe asked if Rose was prepared to write a letter of apology to his victim. Rose replied: "Absolutely."

Sheriff Crowe added: "There was injury caused albeit briefly.

"You were previously of good record, I will let you off with a warning today."

He admonished Rose.
