College's cash for Celtic fun

A LOTHIANS college has been awarded £47,000 to promote Celtic events.

Newbattle Abbey College in Dalkeith has received the Heritage Lottery Fund to help roll out its Pan Celtic programme.

The Celtic Festival is set to take place on 29 May and will be the first of these events.

There will be outdoor activities, storytelling and a ceilidh tent with traditional music from local groups and singers. Craft stalls and organic food and drink stalls will also be on site.

Ann Southwood, principal at Newbattle Abbey College, said: "We are pleased to receive this funding from the HLF and will use the grant to help with the development of our Pan Celtic Programme by employing a part-time project worker to assist with activities, including the Celtic Festival and a local history project to celebrate Midlothian Gala Days."
