College to honour man who 'changed surgery'

The man who "changed surgery" is to be honoured by a special meeting of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

The major meeting in February 2012 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the death of Joseph Lister.

Planning is in the early stage, but college officials are already describing the summit as a "flagship" event.

The College's John Duncan said: "The history of surgery can be divided into only two periods: pre-Lister and the modern era."
