College on course for youth work

STEVENSON College is holding a drop-in session for people who work with youths in the community.

Information on the Professional Development Award (PDA) in youth work will be provided at the college in Sighthill on February 24 from 4-6pm.

The PDA in youth work is a part-time course designed for people who work with young people in a community learning and development context, providing activities, support or guidance.

The course is aimed at those who have experience of youth work in a paid or voluntary capacity, but who do not have a formal qualification.

Programme leader Kate Just said: "A key aspect of helping young people to fulfil their potential as individuals is to ensure that those who work with young people - whether volunteers, paid, part-time, or full time staff - have the necessary support to do their job.

"Many people working in this sector have invaluable experience.

"However, we find that formalising their knowledge through gaining a qualification contributes hugely to their job performance."
