College joins forces with Pakistan unit

QUEEN Margaret University has formed a collaboration with a health training institution in Pakistan.

The Musselburgh-based university has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Health Services Academy at Islamabad that will pave the way for the introduction of a postgraduate certificate in human resources for health management in Pakistan.

The initiative is being supported by the German government development agency GTZ and is expected to attract candidates from among Ministry of Health employees. The course is set to start in January 2011.

QMU principal Professor Petra Wend said: "This collaboration will allow us to provide specialist human resource management courses on a sustainable basis in Pakistan. We intend to move swiftly towards a full agreement that will see QMU further develop its expertise in providing relevant courses that meet the needs of the communities it serves."

The Institute for International Health and Development at QMU has a growing reputation internationally for its specialism in human resources for health.
