Colin Hendry's daughter launches bid to help victims of medical negligence

THE daughter of former Scotland star Colin Hendry has told how she wants to get "justice" for her mother, as she launched a foundation in her memory.

Rheagan Hendry, 21, said she was determined to carry on fighting for her mother Denise, who died after a botched liposuction operation.

The aspiring model has set up the Denise Hendry Foundation, which will support victims of medical negligence, and is holding a beauty contest with a ban on women who have had cosmetic surgery.

Denise Hendry died aged 43 in 2009 after a series of operations to repair damage caused by a botched liposuction in 2002.

Yesterday, Rheagan, who has a five-month-old daughter called River, said she felt her mother was always with her.

She said: "It never goes away but I have had to find a way of coping for the last two years. Having River was such a positive, it was a fantastic moment and the comfort of being a mother has really helped me.

"I think my mum's with me all the time. The day I lost her, I had to stand up and had to carry on fighting for her."

She added: "The aim of the foundation is to provide support for people who have suffered from medical negligence. That could be financial support, legal advice, emotional support, counselling and even bereavement support.

"My mum would never have had cosmetic surgery if she had known the risks. We now know more about the ins and outs of it, and in my mum's case what can go wrong. If I don't do anything I feel we have not got justice for her and she's died for nothing."
