Colin Fox hits out at council cuts

SCOTTISH Socialist leader Colin Fox has hit out at plans for cuts in council services.

He claimed there was "no shortage" of money in Edinburgh and called for the council tax to be replaced with a Scottish Service Tax, based on ability to pay.

Mr Fox, who is standing in the Liberton/Gilmerton by-election, said: "The four establishment parties propose to slash vital services in this city. The people of Edinburgh don't want that. This is Britain's second-richest city, after London. Working people here create more wealth than cities ten times our size.

"It's time to redistribute the wealth in this city to those who need help most - the one in three children who live in poverty, the pensioners who fear the cold, the sick and disabled who desperately need far greater support."
