Cocktails and raffle raise £3k for troops

A CHARITY event to raise money for the Help Our Heroes campaign has brought in more than £3,000.

The event, organised by Nicky Howden of i-on magazine and hosted by The Rutland Hotel, was attended by 150 people on Friday night, raising approximately 3,000 for Help for Heroes and 500 for 1SCOTS soldiers in Afghanistan.

Attendees enjoyed a Champagne reception, cocktails, and a luxury raffle hosted by Forth radio DJ Grant Stott.

Ms Howden said: "Last year I was invited to a formal dinner at the officers' mess at Dreghorn Barracks by a school friend and I saw first-hand how much these men and women put on the line.

"It was a shocking eye-opener for me and the next day I looked up the Help for Heroes website. I wanted to raise awareness of our troops and also help those who have been affected by the war – be that the injured soldiers or their supporting families."
