Clutter is bad sign for drivers

A LEADING motoring organisation has backed moves to reduce the amount of "street clutter" on the country's roads.

The Association of British Drivers said it supported moves to encourage councils to reduce the number of street signs.

Edinburgh City Council has already begun its own attempts to reduce street clutter after banning advertising boards on Rose Street and the Royal Mile.

The ABD's Nigel Humphries said: "Good, necessary, safety-critical signage frequently gets lost in the clutter. Worse still, unnecessary signage is ignored by drivers, undermining the effectiveness of road safety regulations. The whole situation needs reviewed."
