Clutha: Teens charged with theft back in court

FOUR teenagers have made a second appearance in court accused of breaking into the Clutha bar in Glasgow 18 days after the helicopter disaster that claimed ten lives.

Darren Melrose, 18, Jordan Parry, 16, Billy Jo Revie, 16, and a 16-year-old girl from Linwood, Renfrewshire, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are alleged to have broken into the Clutha pub on Stockwell Street, Glasgow, on 17 December and stolen alcohol and charity tins.

Yesterday they appeared separately in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court each facing a charge of theft by housebreaking. Parry, Melrose and the 16-year-old girl were remanded in custody. Revie was granted bail.

The four are accused of stealing a “quantity of alcohol and cash from charity tins” from the pub, owned by Alan Crossan.

Melrose and Parry, from Sauchiehall Street, the teenager from Linwood, and Revie, from Carmichael Street, Govan, made no plea or declaration.

On 30 November, a police helicopter plummeted into the packed Glasgow pub.

It has not yet been established what caused the helicopter to fall from the sky.

Investigators said initial evidence rules out major engine or gearbox failure.
