Clubber jailed after smashing man's jaw with single punch

A CLUBBER broke a man's jaw in two places with a single punch, a court heard.

Robert Laidlaw smashed his fist into Robert McLoughlin's face in a nightclub. His victim was knocked to the floor by the force of the blow.

Wendy McDonald, prosecuting, told how the attack followed a midnight scuffle between the two men in Bathgate, West Lothian.

She said the punch had fractured Mr McLoughlin's jaw on the front left-hand side and had broken the whole joint on the right hand side.

Laidlaw, 21, described as a prisoner at Edinburgh, appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He earlier pled guilty on indictment to assaulting Mr McLoughlin to his severe injury on March 27.

Jailing Laidlaw for 10 months, Sheriff Graeme Fleming told him: "You have failed to comply with conditions of bail - the only appropriate sentence is one of imprisonment."
