Clothes drying near heater spark blaze

A TEENAGER suffered smoke inhalation in a fire sparked by clothes being dried near an electric heater on Saturday.

The 19-year-old, who did not require hospital treatment, was slightly injured during the blaze at a ninth floor flat in Wauchope House, Greendykes, at 11pm.

Firefighters confined the fire to just one room of the property which was fitted with a smoke alarm but the batteries had been removed.

Crews from Newcraighall, Marionville and Tollcross attended the scene and made the flat safe within 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, a neighbour alerted fire crews to a blaze in Broxburn which saw a 47-year-old woman led to safety following a grill pan fire.

The neighbour smelled smoke coming from a house in West Park Grove at around 4.25pm and two firefighters in breathing equipment rescued the occupant and tackled the blaze using a high pressure hose reel.
