Closure threat to specialist teaching site

A CENTRE for training teachers to educate deaf and blind children is facing closure after losing government funding, it was reported today.

The Scottish Sensory Centre, which is based at Edinburgh University, is wholly financed by the Scottish Government, which is axing funding from March 31, blaming public spending cuts.

Nine jobs are thought to be at risk.

The university will step in to fund the centre from the end of March until June to allow a number of courses to be completed, but then funding runs out.
