Closure threat to Jobcentre

A CITY Jobcentre has been earmarked for closure.

The South St Andrew Street office is one of 20 in the UK due to shut as part of a cost-cutting drive.

The Department of Work and Pensions said all staff would be transferred to other Jobcentres.

But Edinburgh North & Leith Labour MP Mark Lazarowicz said: "The South St Andrew Street office is very convenient for people who may be in the city centre for other reasons."

He said the alternative Jobcentres at High Riggs and Leith may not be as convenient.

The DWP said the closure programme was about reducing property costs, not cutting staff.
