Climber dies in avalanche

A VETERAN Scots mountaineer has been found killed by an avalanche below a gully on one of Scotland's most challenging mountain routes.

Douglas Lang, 69, a former president of the Scottish Mountaineering Club, had been climbing alone in severe conditions in the Coire Fee area of Glenn Doll, in Angus. Tayside Mountain Rescue teams began searching for him late on Friday.

Police described him as "a very experienced mountaineer" and confirmed yesterday that a body was found on Saturday. They said there was no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and that a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
