Classic film posters in Scots: Make your own funny picture and win a prize

Scores of fans have been trying their hand at Scots versions of titles and famous lines from film classics as part of Going to the Pictures: Scotland at the Cinema, the National Library’s exhibition exploring the country’s 120-year relationship with the movies.
Originally designed to market the exhibition, a series of NLS posters - featuring “Scotified” titles and dialogue from films including The Wizard of Oz and Jerry Maguire – have become a top attraction in their own righ,t sparking comment from around the world.

Hide AdNow, with one month of the exhibition still to run, the Evening News is today issuing a call for readers to try to do better and surprise us with their own take –in Scots of course – on cinema’s best -oved films.
Andrew Martin, exhibition co -curator with Scottish Screen archive manager Ruth Washbrook, said the posters had proved a real hit.
“They’re quirky – and a fresh way of looking at films.
“I think they’ve certainly given people lots of opportunities to have a laugh.
“Some have not been in pure Scots but they show how this language, which we use on a daily basis, can entertain.”
Readers have until October 14 to submit entries to the Evening News competition.
The winner will receive £100 worth of cinema vouchers as well as seeing their quote turned into a unique artworked poster and printed in the Evening News.
Going to the Pictures: Scotland at the Cinema, meanwhile, runs until October 28 at the library on George IV Bridge. Entry is free.
