Stephanie Ternent, a former finalist in Edinburgh’s Got Talent, wowed judges including Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell at last week’s London auditions and was told she was guaranteed a place in the next round.

But the 26-year-old from Dumbiedykes learned on Saturday that she was being culled from the show after producers confessed to putting too many acts through.

The administration assistant’s dreams of X Factor stardom are now in tatters – but she insists she will bounce back stronger than ever.

Former Boroughmuir High School pupil Stephanie said: “I was in London last week for my X Factor audition in front of the judges. I was absolutely delighted to get a ‘yes’ and make it through to boot camp after a very long, tiring and emotional day.

“I was all set to go to boot camp in two days’ time, however it seems they have moved the goalposts.

“They have made a pre-boot camp elimination as they have put too many acts through and unfortunately I have been one that has been cut from the show.

“Although I am devastated, I will bow out gracefully, and embrace the memories from that day.

“Singing at Wembley Arena in front of 5000 people and the judges, then having the judges give me good feedback is a moment I’ll treasure forever. Here’s to more journeys in my singing because I won’t give up my dream.

“I appreciate the opportunity I was given and wish the other contestants all the best.”

Producers of the X Factor sent e-mails to the many disappointed contestants who had failed to make the cut for the latest segment of the popular show.

The e-mails read: “The standard of auditions has been very high and, with a limited number of places available at boot camp, sadly we cannot offer everyone who received a ‘yes’ in their audition a place in the next stage. We are writing to inform you now as we want to be clear with you about the process and also to make sure that you do not book any travel for next week.”

An X Factor spokesperson said: “Owing to a very high standard of talent, not all successful singers will be offered a place at boot camp.”

Stephanie, an administration officer for the Scottish Volleyball Association, reached the EGT final in 2011.
