City tipped to recover well

EDINBURGH is among the top ten UK cities likely to fare well in the economic recovery, according to a new report.

The study by the Work Foundation forecast the gap between successful cities and those with weak economies would increase during the recovery.

It said growth over the next ten years will be driven by knowledge-based industries and warned cities dominated by the public sector would face challenges. It said Edinburgh was likely to see "robust growth" despite high public sector employment because much of it is in higher education institutions and research-led bodies.

Reading and Bracknell, Cambridge and London have a "very high" growth potential index, while Edinburgh's was "high" .
