City 'should support AV'

THE campaign for electoral reform should be given support and assistance from the city council, according to a Green councillor in the Capital.

Maggie Chapman said the council should provide facilities such as meeting spaces to support the campaign for a Yes vote in the forthcoming referendum on whether to adopt an Alternative Vote system for Westminster elections.

She believes that AV is "an improvement and a step towards a proportional system".

A motion on the issue is due to be debated next Thursday.
