City museums collect share of £200,000

TWO city collections are among those sharing in £200,000 awarded to museums across Scotland. The Royal College of Surgeons and Edinburgh University's Collection of Historic Musical Instruments will receive around £20,000 each from Museums Galleries Scotland.

The announcement was made by Culture Minister Fiona Hyslop on a visit to the university's instrument collection at St Cecilia's Hall in the Cowgate.

She said: "Right across Scotland, museums and galleries play a tremendously important role in supporting tourism, the economy and local communities. These nationally significant collections are of great value to the people of Scotland and to millions of visitors we welcome from around the world."
