City launch for drive to highlight mentoring

The help which vulnerable people can get from mentoring and befriending was highlighted today at the launch of a national campaign at the Assembly Rooms attended by Communities Minister Alex Neil.

The campaign, Supporting Life's Journeys, brings together thousands of volunteers, service users and supporters in a bid to persuade funders and policy-makers to invest more in mentoring and befriending, which helps a wide variety of people from old folk to at-risk young people.

Organisers are also attempting to stage the biggest number of people taking part in a "virtual" dance.

The dance will be displayed on YouTube and other websites, with participants invited to submit their own interpretation of the dance or some steps from it by filming themselves with a video camera or mobile and posting the footage online.
