City gets £11m for high-speed broadband

HIGH-SPEED broadband will be available across the Capital in three years’ time after the city council was handed almost £11 million.The UK Government funding will be spent on wireless zones in city centre streets, squares and parks.

In total, £10.7m has been given to the city council, which is investing a further £1.9m and has vowed to connect 90 per cent of residents and businesses by 2015.

Councillor Alasdair Rankin, finance convener, said: “This is great news for Edinburgh. We knew the funding was coming but now the exact amount has been announced we can put our plans into action to make Edinburgh a super-connected city.”
