City fuel bills cool off

GAS and electricity bills in Edinburgh are some of the cheapest in Scotland, new government statistics reveal.

The average combined fuel bill in Edinburgh was 1,167 in 2008, compared with 1,577 for Aberdeenshire and 1,274 for Midlothian.

The figure was the sixth lowest out of 32 regions in Scotland.
