City forges links with universities

COUNCIL chiefs have joined forces with Edinburgh's universities and colleges to promote the Capital.

The partnership is designed to enhance the international impact of the organisations involved and build on Edinburgh's traditional close working relationship between town and gown.

City education leader Councillor Marilyne MacLaren said: "The traditional links forged between the council and the city's colleges and universities are too valuable to let fade away and I think there is much to be gained by nurturing them."

Professor Stephen Hillier, vice-principal at the University of Edinburgh, added: "Since the foundation of the University of Edinburgh in 1583, the city and its universities have worked closely to make Edinburgh an internationally important seat of learning.

"Today, we ensure this partnership will endure for generations to come."
