City centre chaos as three-car crash closes Royal Mile

PART of Edinburgh's Royal Mile was closed off for almost an hour yesterday afternoon following a three-car collision.

The incident happened at the junction of New Street and the Canongate near the Canon's Gait pub shortly before 4pm.

A police spokeswoman said it was believed to have been the result of a car spinning.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said a woman was treated for a head injury at the scene and no-one was taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire Service said: "Firefighters from Tollcross attended the scene. No-one was trapped in the incident.

"Firefighters made the vehicles safe and the road was washed down of accident debris."

Police closed off a stretch of road from St Mary's Street to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and diverted traffic from the street for 40 minutes until the vehicles were removed.
