City brought to its senses

RADICAL designer Kate McLean, who has developed a way of profiling UK cities by sensory experience, has chosen Edinburgh as the flagship city.

The Capital has been "mapped" for the first time by taste, smell, sight and touch.

The smells of the city, including brewery malt fumes, have been represented by a series of contour lines charting the flow of aromas around Auld Reekie.

Ms McLean has invited audiences from across Edinburgh to take part in future events planned as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival, from April 9-22.
