City BlindCraft hurt by west coast success

THE securing of a £250,000 deal for the Glasgow outlet of BlindCraft has made the Edinburgh's factory's closure even more painful, unions have said.

As BlindCraft in the Capital is preparing to wind up after more than 200 years, its west coast equivalent netted a contract to make beds and mattresses for the upcoming International Children's Games in Lanarkshire.

It is exactly the kind of deal the Edinburgh workshop should have been competing for, unions said.

Fraser Queen, branch secretary at the Community Union, said: "In Glasgow the charity has had the goodwill of the local authority - that hasn't happened here."
