City 5th worst for card fraud

EDINBURGH was the fifth worst place in the UK for credit card fraud last year, new figures reveal.

An estimated 13 million Britons have now been the victim of card fraud despite a slowdown in the number of people affected by the crime during 2010, according to life assistance company CPP.

Around 28 per cent of people said their credit or debit card had been used by fraudsters at some point, seven per cent of whom had been victims during the past 12 months.

In Edinburgh, 31 per cent of people were affected. But the number hit during 2010 was slightly down on the 10 per cent in 2009.
