Cigarette in kitchen bin sparks blaze

A 46-YEAR-OLD woman was treated by ambulance crews after a discarded cigarette set fire to her kitchen bin.

Firefighters were called to the Kingsknowe Place property at 9.41pm yesterday.

Meanwhile a 21-year-old student was taken to hospital with burns after pouring cold water on a chip pan that had caught fire.

The fire service received a call to Kincaid's Court student accommodation at around 10.15pm on Saturday after the woman's flatmates raised the alarm.

The student suffered burns to her left hand and left arm and was taken to the Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

Fire crews also extinguished a blaze at the Tailend Restaurant and Fish Bar in Leith sparked by a deep fat fryer on Saturday morning.
