In an address to the delegation, Cllr Dawe said: "Over the past year in particular, Edinburgh's relationship with China has been growing fast.

"In Edinburgh, we have welcomed delegations from Tianjin City; entered into an agreement in January to have two Giant Pandas on loan to Edinburgh Zoo; and in August we will be welcoming the National Ballet of China and the Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe to the 2011 Edinburgh International Festival.

"I am very pleased that you have made Edinburgh your first stop in your visit to the UK. I hope that your discussions here are fruitful and that this visit will be the start of a growing interaction."
