Children are on the case

A LOTHIANS zoo will help children become forensic scientists by giving them hair samples from donkeys and ponies to analyse.

The youngsters will learn the new skills in a week-long summer holiday club organised by Lynne Kerr, owner of ComputerXplorers South-East Scotland

The club is being held from August 8 to 12 at St George's School for Girls and will see the children learn forensic skills using digital microscopes and computers to solve a pretend crime scenario.

They will compare human hair with hair from the Five Sisters Zoo's Shetland pony and miniature donkeys during the session on hair analysis.

Lesley Coupar, spokesman for the zoo, said "Education plays an important role in what we do. I am sure the children will find it very interesting."
