Child burns hands in fire

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was taken to the Sick Kids hospital with burns to his hands after a fire at Tranent Juniors Football and Social Club.

The fire broke out at around 8pm last night in a cupboard in the main stand. A fire service spokeswoman said the boy burnt his hands by putting them onto the hot metal door.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and paramedics transferred the boy to hospital.

In a separate incident, two women were led to safety after a pan of food caught alight in a first floor flat in Sighthill Avenue at around 11.30pm last night. No one was injured. The pan was removed from the flat and firefighters ventilated the property.
