Chernobyl kids welcomed

ST GEORGE’S School for Girls has hosted a group of children from Belarus and Ukraine as part of the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line charity initiative.

The initiative provides a month’s respite care for underprivileged children affected by the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986.

Now in its 13th year, the annual event sees pupils aged between eight and 12 spend a day in the school’s nursery, meeting pupils and staff, helping with lessons, and getting involved in various aspects of the school routine.

Prior to the group’s arrival, pupils from St George’s had been donating clothes for the children to take home with them along with various gifts of toiletries and treats.
