Cheap option: 'The gym is massive and it has fantastic equipment'

JULIE Reynolds, 31, joined the low-cost, no-frills branch of Pure Gym, in Bath Street, Glasgow, four months ago.

Ms Reynolds, a chiropractor, who works out for an hour three or four times a week, said: "I was a member of another gym for the last couple of years but I work round the corner from Pure Gym and saw the signs going up when they were opening.

"I was a bit concerned it would be a bit rubbish, small with no equipment. But some of my colleagues joined and I went for a look.

"Another factor in me joining was that my other gym was too far away from me while Pure Gym is open 24/7 so I could go along any time."

Ms Reynolds pays 17 a month compared with 44 per month at her previous big-name gym. She also has a personal trainer at 15 per half hour.

"Apart from the cost there are a number of bonuses. The gym is massive and it has fantastic equipment. The first time I saw the place I thought 'oh, my god. I can't believe this'.

"I think the equipment is better than other gyms. Also, I tended to avoid peak times at my other gym when you could hardly ever get on the treadmill.

"With being open all day Pure Gym is definitely less crowded. It seems to attract a younger, more varied crowd including corporate people from the offices nearby. There's no sauna and I do miss the pool. But there is everything here for a full workout - all your modern equipment, machine work, mats, treadmill, light weights and even an exercise studio.

"With my job I believe in looking after my health and this gym is great as far as I'm concerned."
