Charity wants runners to stay the course

A CHARITY is hoping to encourage more people sign up for its fundraising places in the Edinburgh, London and Brighton marathons after a survey found working towards such an event could help people to keep a New Year fitness resolution.

Oxfam commissioned an online poll in which YouGov surveyed 2,125 adults between 8 and 10 December last year.

It found some 50 per cent of people had resolved to lose weight this year, while 43 per cent wanted to get fitter.

However, 42 per cent broke the resolutions within a month. The proportion of those who dropped outfell to 28 per cent among people who had signed up to a running event.
