Charity shop's Olympic donation deserves a medal

A CHARITY shop hopes to make a few yuan from a unique donation of six commemorative medallions from the Beijing Olympics.

The medallions, featuring the official Chinese mascots known as Fuwa - or Good Luck Dolls - were gifted to the Save The Children Shop in South Bridge.

They were originally a gift to veterans charity Poppyscotland from the Chinese Department of Veteran Affairs, who visited Poppyscotland's headquarters in Logie Green Road shortly before the 2008 Olympics.

One local expert predicts they could fetch "hundreds of pounds".

Michael Guen, of neighbouring store Spirit of China, said: "I had a look online and they were selling these for up to 600 in some sites."

A spokeswoman for Poppyscotland said: "We are very pleased that Save The Children stand to benefit from this donation."
