Charity shops join cancer poster drive

CANCER Research UK shops in the Capital are taking part in a new campaign which it is hoped will save lives across the country.

Stores on Ormiston Terrace, Main Street and Morningside Road will feature posters of ovarian cancer survivor Sue Vipond, who launched the Spot Cancer Early nationwide initiative yesterday.

Shops in South Clerk Street, Raeburn Place and Portobello High Street will also take part in the campaign, which focuses on personal stories from cancer survivors in a bid to encourage others to see their GP about any changes to their bodies.

Sue, a 62-year-old from Peebles, said: “When men and women see my picture in the shop window, they will see someone who has recovered from cancer and is enjoying life. I hope it will help them understand that cancer does not have to be a death sentence anymore. Today, more and more people like me are surviving the disease.”
