Charity outlet appeals for stock after flooding

A CHARITY is appealing for donations of clothing and books after much of its stock was wrecked in heavy flooding around Stockbridge.

The Chest, Heart and Stroke store on Raeburn Place was one of many properties affected by last week’s floods, with streets submerged and water pouring into homes.

The incessant downpour led the Water of Leith to burst its banks and the majority of the Colonies in Stockbridge avoided catastrophe only narrowly.

Liz Wickes, a spokeswoman for the charity, said: “Our new store in Stockbridge lost stock as a result of flood damage and requires donations of clothing and books etc to restock its shelves.”

Since the start of June, 230mm of rain has been recorded at the Botanics Met Office weather station, compared with the usual average total for the summer months of 150-200mm.
