A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “Initial crews were faced with a well developed fire and immediately summoned additional appliances and resources to attend.”

“Crews have been challenged by additional hazards in the form of chemicals stored and suspected cylinders within the premises.

“This added to the partial collapse of sections of the roof and walls.”

The fire spread to external storage areas and engulfed stockpiles of used tyres.

By 8am the blaze had been extinguished and crews remained at the scene to dampen down the site, a fire service spokeswoman said.

There were no casualties reported.
