Census contract to create 100 new jobs at IT security company

AROUND 100 jobs are to be created in the Capital after a city firm was appointed to process Scotland's next census in 2011.

DNS, an information security services company based in Edinburgh, has been appointed to help IT solutions firm CACI (UK) to meet the security standards used in the census, before these are carefully checked by the General Register Office for Scotland.

The census will be the first to use both traditional paper and online questionnaires.

Dundee-based internet service provider Brightsolid has also been appointed to work with CACI, with a total of more than 200 jobs being created.

The companies will help develop the 2011 census website, print paper questionnaires and develop the IT systems for automated handwritten data capture and coding.

The new technology to deliver the census will be put to the test when residents in west Edinburgh, Lewis and Harris take part in the census rehearsal on March 29.
