Celtic manager was ‘just doing job’ when attacked

CELTIC manager Neil Lennon has described how he was assaulted at a game against Hearts.

He was giving evidence at the trial of John Wilson, 26, who is accused of lunging at him and seizing him around the neck at Tynecastle football stadium on May 11 this year.

Mr Lennon told Edinburgh Sheriff Court he felt the atmosphere had been “on edge” and felt “angry” after he was assaulted.

Principal fiscal depute Melanie Ward asked Mr Lennon if he had done anything to incite the attack and he replied: “No, I was just doing my job as professional as I could be”.

The jury heard that Mr Lennon has received threats against his life.

Wilson denies all allegations against him.
