Celtic fan on trial over flare

A Celtic fan will stand trial accused of setting off a flare or smoke bomb during a match against Hearts.

Callum Connelly is accused of being in possession of the pyrotechnic at Tynecastle Stadium. The 19-year-old denies committing a breach of the peace on November 28 last year. He is also accused of causing fellow spectators and stewards fear for their safety.

Connelly appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday. Defence solicitor David Patterson said his client pled not guilty to both charges and asked for bail pending trial.

Fiscal depute Arlene Shaw agreed to bail, but banned Connelly from attending football matches or entering Tynecastle.
