Celebration of city parks' flag status is out in open

AN event has taken place to celebrate the Capital's parks and other green spaces.

Across the city, 13 parks have secured prestigious Green Flags in the last year and each was represented at last night's event.

Winners in the Shot in the Park photography competition and Edinburgh in Bloom garden competition were also invited to attend.

The event, held at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, was hosted by Beechgrove Garden presenter Bill Torrance.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, the city's environmental leader, said: "I applaud the effort and imagination of the green- fingered entrants in both the Edinburgh in Bloom and photography competition.

"It's great to see the local community come together to celebrate all their hard work in making local neighbourhoods more attractive which contributes to the beauty of our city."
